The President of Romania , Traian Basescu visits Moscow

       President of Romania, Traian Basescu met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, on the occasion of the official visit to Moscow on Monday, February 14th, 2005.

The talks concentrated on the bilateral relation, highlighting the importance of strengthening the economic ties and building a political dialogue based on mutual trust.

President Basescu expressed his confidence that the two countries will find the necessary resources to look towards the future, taking into account the realities of the past but building for the future. He assured his Russian counterpart that under his term Romania will be one of the European friends of Russia.

The Russian President underlined the importance of the Political Treaty between Romania and the Russian Federation signed in 2003 and the bilateral commercial exchange rate that grew with 15% by the end of 2004. He also expressed his hope that the visit to Moscow of President Basescu will contribute to establishing close personal relations and consolidating the relations between the two countries.

“We are aware of the importance Russia plays in the region and Romania also wants to affirm its role as a country with interests in the region”, the Romanian President mentioned. He also expressed his confidence that bilateral cooperation relations could develop not only at a personal level but also between the two nations.
