Today, October 26th, the Cotroceni Palace hosted the oath laying ceremony occasioned by the appointment of Mr. Sorin Frunzaverde as a Defense Minister. On the occasion, President Traian Basescu underscored the significant discrepancy between the way the Romanian Army looks in statistics and reality. “You have the difficult mission of catching up with the times, so that your public statements are in compliance with reality, in terms of transformation process and becoming prepared to serve the national interest ”, stated the President.
To this end, the Head of State recommended to the new Minister to do what had to be done long time ago, namely to see what the situation in each unit looks like, “compared with how it looks on the map”. With regard to the budget allocated that “gives Army no chance to recover”, the President expressed hope that, during parliamentary commissions and plenary talks, a solution supporting this process will be found .
Te Head of State wished all the best to the Defense Minister, expressing confidence in the fact the new Minister will find Government's cooperation in order to bring the Army to the stage that is required for respecting the commitments taken in front of foreign partners.
