President of Romania Traian Basescu attended the first meeting of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Romanian Communist Dictatorship. The Commission was created at the request of Romanian President and its objective is to release an extended report on the investigations related to the former communist regime in Romania . Prof. Vladimir Tismaneanu from Maryland University is the Chairman of the Commission and well-known personalities are members: Sorin Alexandrescu, Sorin Antohi , Mihnea Berindei , I.P.S. Nicolae Corneanu , Constantin Ticu Dumitrescu, Radu Filipescu , Virgil Ierunca , Sorin Iliesiu , Gail Klingman , Monica Lovinescu , Nicolae Manolescu , Marius Oprea, Horia-Roman Patapievici , Dragos Petrescu , Andrei Pippidi , Romulus Rusan , Stelian Tanase , Cristian Vasile , Alexandru Zub .
The Commission will have a nest meeting on June 2006 and the report is expected to be released by the end of October 2006.
