The eighth Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) will be organized on 11 May 2005 in Bucharest , at the Parliament Palace .

The event marks the finalizing of the Romanian Chairmanship-in- Office of the SEECP and the taking over of the mandate by Greece , the future Chairmanship-in- Office .

The SEECP Summit of the Heads of State and Government provides a good opportunity for assessing the results accomplished during the Romanian Chairmanship, being the first high level meeting organized after the signing by Romania and Bulgaria of the EU Accession Treaty (25 April 2005).

The Summit is also the first SEECP meeting held at the highest level with the participation of the Republic of Croatia as a full fledged member state and the Republic of Moldova as an observer.

The main topics of the Summit will be the role of the SEECP regarding the democratic stability processes and its functioning as a platform for regional cooperation.

The meeting will be attended by the Presidents and/or Heads of Government from the SEECP Participating States. Special invitees to the Summit are representatives from the main international institutions (EU Presidency, European Commission, NATO, OSCE, Council of Europe, SPSEE, UNMIK, SEDM, SECI Regional Centre).

The event will be preceded on 10 May 2005 by the meeting of the SEECP Ministers of Foreign Affairs and on 8-9 May 2005 by the Committee of the Political Directors.

The two meetings will prepare the final documents of the SEECP Summit and will endorse the Bucharest Declaration, that is to be adopted by the SEECP Presidents, on 10 May 2005 .
