Five Romanian observers participated in the January 9th Palestinian elections
A team of five observers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania participated in the January 9 th Palestinian elections, at the invitation of the Palestinian Central Electoral Commission.
In a press release on January 10 th the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania showed that this historic moment stands for a turning point in establishing the Palestinian state as a sovereign state, coexisting in peace and security with Israel , as well as the building of lasting peace in the Middle East .
Taking place in a climate of participation and civic responsibility, the presidential elections demonstrated that the Palestinian people has the necessary force to build its own destiny by applying democratic practice, which will also support the legislative elections planned for this year.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed its hope that elections' results will bring about the expected clarifications on the Palestinian political scene and president Abbas will succeed in gathering all major political forces in building a democratic, lasting and prosperous future for the Palestinian people.
The decision of the Romanian Government to send observers to the Palestinian elections confirmed, once again, the Romanian authorities' support to the process of establishing Palestinian viable institutions, as a fundamental step to creating the necessary climate for peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and long-lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East .
