Bucharest,
May 20 /Agerpres/ - Romanian Foreign Minister Cristian
Diaconescu, during a working visit to Warsaw, met with his
Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorsky on Wednesday. The main
topics approached during the talks included the developments in
the European Union's eastern neighbourhood, with special
emphasis on the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine and the
bilateral cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
announced.
The two
foreign ministers highlighted the importance of an attitude in
keeping with the European norms on behalf of the states seeking
a closer relation with the European Union as well as the need
for these states to prove they are capable of acting as
generators of regional stability, in the spirit of the good
neighbourliness relations. They said the Eastern Partnership is
an opportunity to determine the states the initiative is aimed
at, namely the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Azerbaijan,
Georgia, Armenia and Belarus to hold a more sustained dialogue
with the EU.
'The visit
paid to Warsaw is relevant for the traditional interest Romania
and Poland show in the developments in the eastern space and it
happens at a moment when, after the launch of the Eastern

support to carry out the deep reforms on their way to the
democratization and the consolidation of the institutions of the
state of law and the observance of the human rights and the
fundamental freedoms,' Minister Diaconescu said.
With respect

The Romanian
top diplomat presented his Polish counterpart the project of the
European Strategy aimed at the Danube basin and he asked the
Warsaw Administration's support for its enactment within the
European Union.
