A military was killed and other four were wounded today, August
31 at about 10 a.m. (Romanian time) in Afghanistan.
The military from the 30th Mountain Battalion “Dragoslavele”
were in mission of patrol on the A1 high way (Qalat-Kabul) at
about 20 km far from Qalat. The third amphibious armored carrier
from the column of four vehicles passed over an explosive
device.
In the explosion, Senior Sergeant Dragos Traian Alexandrescu was
killed. The military was married, had two children and worked
within the Ministry of Defence since 2003.
The wounded military benefited of medical care at the explosion
place and then they were transported to the military hospital in
Lagman Base.
The MoD leaders are expressing their deep regret for the lost
and the condolences for the families.

“I was grief – stricken to hear about the death
of Senior Sergeant Dragos Traian Alexandrescu from the 30
battalion Mountaineers Dragoslavele, killed while on duty, in
Afghanistan and the injury of other four of his colleagues.
It is a painful loss for his family and colleagues, a sad moment
for the Romanian Army and Romania. I voice my deep compassion
and solidarity in this painful moment with all who knew Dragos
Traian Alexandrescu and I offer my sincere condolence to this
bereaved family.
May He rest in peace!
I am standing by the side of the four Romanian military wounded
in mission in Afghanistan. I appreciate their courage, loyalty
and I assure them of my full support. I wish them rapid recovery
and I wish them return home healthy, to be alongside their
families and friends”.
