the community and the Romanian authorities”

On February 23, the Embassy hosted the Conference “Romanian-American community – pillar of the Romania-US relationship. Present and perspectives in the cooperation between the community and the Romanian authorities”. The event was chaired by Secretary of State Mihai Gheorghiu, Head of the Department for Relations with Romanians Living Abroad and moderated by Ambassador Adrian Vierita. More than 80 invitees attended the reunion, including leaders of the Romanian American community, representatives of the Romanian churches and of the Romanian media in the US, academic and cultural personalities, honorary consuls and members of student associations. The Romanian general consuls in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York also took part in the event.

 

Based on a comprehensive and flexible format, the conference provided the framework for an open and substantial dialogue on a wide range of topics of interest for the Romanian community, such as the support offered to the Romanian Americans by the Romanian authorities, the community’s concerns on its relations with the Romanian State and proposals for making these relations more effective. At the same time, the reunion included discussions and presentations on concrete projects promoted by Romanians living in the US, opinions and exchanges of views on ways to strengthen the unity and identity of the Romanian community, to amplify the community role in promoting Romania’s image in the United States.
