During this meeting, PM Tariceanu has
evoked his last year’s visit to London, where there had
been established the organization of the Romanian –
British Business Forum, held this spring, which enjoyed
a real success in Great Britain. The Head of the
Bucharest Executive has appreciated his British
counterpart’ support to the organization of this
gathering and has added that this forum will have a
follow –up in Bucharest over the next period.
The two officials have discussed about the consolidation
of bilateral cooperation. In this context, PM Tariceanu
has mentioned Romania's attractiveness for investments,
citing Automobile Craiova's takeover by Ford Motor Co.
as one of the major foreign capital investments to
develop in Romania. PM Tariceanu and PM Brown have also
tackled regional energy politics. The Romanian PM has
pleaded for a common energy policy to reduce dependence
on a single supplier.
The two Heads of Government have also approached
subjects on the NATO Summit agenda, the issue of Ukraine
and Georgia being granted the Membership Action Plan
(MAP) and of invitations to NATO. PM Tariceanu has also
reiterated the idea that Serbia should be offered a
European perspective.
The two Prime Ministers have also discussed about
Romania’s contribution to NATO operations in
Afghanistan, the Romanian Prime Minister adding that a
special attention should be extended to the preparations
for undertaking the future missions.
British PM Gordon Brown has thanked Romania for its
contribution to NATO missions.
