Minister Cioroianu urges Romanian honorary consuls: Let us all together put Romania on the map!
Sibiu, April 21 /Rompres/ - Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu urged Romania's 65 honorary consuls at a meeting in Sibiu on Saturday to help him promote the country's image across the world, an image that should reflect all the Romanian realities. "Let us all together put Romania on the map!" Cioroianu said.
He told them to speak of Romania's values, but at the same time not to avoid using other symbols that attract the tourists, like Dracula and the People's House. "Dracula can be a gold mine for Romania, if used wisely /…/ Bucharest's Parliament Palace is the most frequently visited building in Romania. The charm of this country lies in its diversity", Adrian Cioroianu said.
The head of Romanian diplomacy spoke about the first Romanian city to have become an European cultural capital. "Sibiu is one of the brightest Romanian faces at this moment, not only because it is this year's European cultural capital, but because it represents an interface of a dynamic and fast-developing Romania and it is able to show that our overall image is not only the clichés of stray dogs and children sleeping in sewers", Minister Cioroianu stressed.
The foreign minister met in Sibiu on Saturday the 65 Romanian honorary consuls, with whom he discussed the Romanian foreign relations. The diplomats visited Brukenthal Palace, currently closed to visitors, and Astra Museum based in Dumbrava Sibiului, where they had dinner at a traditional Romanian inn.
Organisers say the sessions 'Diplomacy and cultural promotion', 'Romania of the cultural tourism', 'The honorary consuls' role in achieving the Romanian foreign policy goals' seek to set a framework for debates among the honorary consuls, the Foreign Ministry leadership and leaders of other Romanian cultural, tourist and economic institutions, representatives of the civil society and academics.
