Mihai - Razvan UNGUREANU

Minister of Foreign Affairs

 

 

Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on December 29, 2004 .

Prior to this appointment, he was deputy coordinator for the South-East European Cooperation Initiative (SECI), Vienna .

Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu served as State Secretary with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998 - 2001) and Director General - Regional envoy of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe (2001-2003).

Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu graduated from the Faculty of History, "Al.I. Cuza" University of Iasi . In 1993 he became M.Phil.of St.Cross College , University of Oxford , and in 2004 Dr.Phil. Faculty of History, "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi .

His scientific activity includes: member of "Al.I.Cuza" University Senate (1990 - 1992), Executive Secretary of International Students in History's Association, Budapest - Brussels (1990 - 1993), member of the Romanian Society of Heraldry, Sigillography and Genealogy of the Romanian Academy, the Iasi branch(since 1993), member of the scientific board of the Soros Foundation for an Open Society, Iasi - Bucharest(1996-1998), Director of the Romanian Studies Centre in Iasi, of the Romanian Cultural Foundation (1996 -1999), member of the European Association for Jewish Studies, Oxford, Great Britain (since 1997), Senior Fellow of Oxford Centre for Jewish and Hebrew Studies, St.Cross College, University of Oxford, Great Britain (since 1998), member of the National Council for Education Reform, Ministry of National Education (1998-2000), member of the Council of the Institute for Genealogy and Heraldry "Sever Zotta" Iasi (since 1998), President of the Romanian Institute for Strategic Studies, Bucharest (since 2001), member of the administrative board of the New Europe College, Bucharest (since 2002), member of the scientific board of the Centre for Security policies, Szeged, Hungary (since 2003), Director of the Centre for Jewish Studies in the Faculty of History, "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi (since 2004).

Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu was editor or editor-in-chief of the following journals and magazines: "Dialog", "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi (1988-1992), "Genealogic Archives", Romanian Academy , Bucharest (since 1993), "Revue des Etudes Roumaines", Carol II Royal Foundation - Romanian Academy , Paris - Bucharest (since 1994); "Review of Social History", "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi (since 1996). Since 1998 he has been coordinator of the Historia collection of Polirom Publishing House, Iasi - Bucharest .

Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu delivered courses at a number of higher education institutions in the country and abroad: Senior Reader with "George C. Marshall" Center for Security Studies, Garmish-Partenkirchen, Germany (since 2003), Teacher Fellow with the National School for Political and Administrative Studies, Bucharest, (since 2002), Senior Reader with NATO School (SHAPE), Oberammergau, Germany (since 2001), Reader with the Faculty of History, "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi (since 1998). He was also associate professor with the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London, Great Britain (1996-1998), lecturer with the Faculty of History, "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi (1996-1998), visiting professor (Gaest Wissenschaftler) in the Department for European History, Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany (1993 - 1997), preparer with the Faculty of History, "Al.I.Cuza" University of Iasi (1992-1996), teacher at "Mihai Eminescu" High school in Iasi (1992).

Minister Ungureanu published over 50 scientific articles and had over 60 contributions to newspapers in the country and abroad. In 1997 he published statistical documents regarding the city of Iasi (period 1755 - 1828, vol. I-II, in collaboration with Prof. Ioan Caprosu), in 1998, in Iasi - "The Comprehensive Catalogue of Moldavian Boyars" and in 2004, in Iasi - "Conversion and Integration in the Romanian Society at the Beginning of the Modern Era".
