MEETING OF ROMANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MIHAI-RAZVAN UNGUREANU AND US DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE FOR EUROPEAN AND EURASIAN AFFAIRS DAVID KRAMER
On Monday, April 3rd, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai- Razvan Ungureanu had a meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, David Kramer .
The agenda of the meeting included aspects related to recent electoral processes in Belarus (presidential elections on March 19 th ) and Ukraine (parliamentary and local elections on March 26 th ). Talks included the impact of the Belarus scrutiny on future development of the political dialogue with the international democratic community, from the perspective of an electoral campaign profoundly monopolized by President Alexandr Lukasenko .
Both parties welcomed the quality of the electoral process in Ukraine , the democratic, transparent and correct development of the scrutiny, which underlines the continuity of the presidential elections process in 2004 and, on long term, sets the bases of a democratic electoral behavior, in accordance with international rules.
Talks also included an exchange of opinion on developments of the situation in Transnistria , from the perspective of recent events related to the new custom regulations at the border between The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine . The two parties underlined the fact that progress in the negotiation process requests political will and serious engagement in finding a lasting solution for the conflict, from all parties involved.
