“My presence, as Prime Minister was necessary, taking into account the fact that the events of that time had a special impact not only at European political level, but at world level too, because they cast a different light on communism, showing what the Soviets' power based on force, tanks and terror really meant”, Prime Minister has stated.
The Hungarian uprising for freedom and democracy had a special impact in Romania too, where it created hopes, but very many youngsters became victims of repression. “It is regrettable that the Communist power of that time from Romania cooperated so much with the Soviet forces to suppress the Revolution”, the Head of the Executive has stated.
In Budapest , Prime Minister Calin Popescu – Tariceanu has had a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, Mr. Ferenc Gyurcsany . The two Prime Ministers discussed about the political situation from Hungary , and the joint meeting of the Government of Romania and the Government of the Hungarian Republic to be held this year and also about the evolution of the relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister has added that he had a series of discussions with his counterparts and heads of state. “I have noticed an extremely favorable attitude. I was given compliments, given my capacity as representative of the Romanian state, on the progress Romania achieved, and we were congratulated for the success of the forthcoming EU accession on January 1st 2007”, Prime Minister has stated.
Answering a question, the Head of the Executive stated that he had discussed with the President of the European Commission, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso , both at the dinner given by the Hungarian authorities last evening, and at the reception following today's public ceremonies. “We discussed many subjects, about the future European Commissioner from Romania including”, the Head of the Executive has further stated.
