Transfer Scholarship Given

A student at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College has been awarded a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship. Dan F. Nechita , a native of Romania who lives in Arlington , is a computer science major in the honors program.

He has a 4.0 grade-point average and is editor of the campus newspaper, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and public relations officer and webmaster of the International Club.

Nechita expects to get an associate's degree in science in January and hopes to continue at Yale or Georgetown universities.

Recipients of the Jack Kent Cooke undergraduate transfer scholarships attend or have completed courses at two-year institutions. The scholarship can be worth up to $30,000 a year.
