FM Ungureanu in Washington, meets US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

Washington – Within his working visit to Washington, Romanian Foreign Minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu on Tuesday met up with us Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and with the Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns, on which occasions they addressed matters of bilateral relations as well as various aspects of the international affairs.

On Monday, the head of Romanian diplomacy met Stephen Hadley, advisor to the
US President on matters of domestic security, and John Negroponte, National Director of the US Intelligence Community, with whom he discussed Black Sea related issues. During the talks, the emphasis fell on the areas of co-operation promoted by the Romanian initiative of establishing a Black Sea Forum for Dialogue and Co-operation – the political dialogue, co-operation in the field of energy, deterrence of asymmetrical security threats, environmental issues, as well as the introduction of the Black Sea Euro-region in Constanta , this week.

The Romanian Foreign Minister met up with the Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England, the deputy of Donald Rumsfeld , US Secretary of Defense, who reiterated the firm intention of the American party of using the military facilities Romania, through the enforcement of the Access Agreement, only by consultation and in agreement with the Romanian authorities.

On Monday, Ungureanu also had talks with Rabbi Andrew Baker, Director for International Relation s of American Jewish Committee, and with Daniel Mariaschin , Executive Vice-President of B'nai B'rith International, whom he briefed on the progress made with the safeguarding of the Jewish heritage in Romania and on our country's intention to host in 2007 the OSCE Summit on Anti-Semitism and other Forms of Intolerance.
