The Prime Minister Adrian Nastase will make a working visit in the USA, between July 18-21st 2004, in the context of the presidency of our country of the UN Security Council.
The visit will have a component in a multilateral plan, at the UN headquarters in New York, as well as a component in a bilateral plan in the Washington DC capital.
The Prime Minister of Romania will preside the Reunion of the Security Council with the theme: “UN cooperation- regional organizations in the stabilization processes”, thematic debate initiated by our country and will have working talks with the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan. At the debates within the Security Council, of July the 20th, eleven regional organizations will be represented.
During the Washington visit, Mr. Adrian Nastase, Prime Minister of Romania, will meet the President of the USA, George W. Bush- this representing the maximum moment of the bilateral political dialogue Romania-USA, in 2004- as well as with high officials of the American administration: Colin Powell, USA secretary of state, Donald Rumsfeld, secretary of defense and William H. Frist, leader of the Republican majority from the American Senate.
At the same time, within a meeting with Mr. Spencer Abraham, Secretary for Energy of the US, the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Energy Department of the US, the Nuclear Agency and the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activities from Romania in the presence of the Romanian Prime Minister with a view to fighting the proliferation of nuclear materials and technologies.
The problematic of the economic development of Romania and of the stimulation of the foreign investments will be the subject of the discussions with the leaders of some American companies interested in promoting businesses in our country, that will take place under the aegis “Business Council for International Understanding” (BCIU) in New York. At the same time, the Prime Minister will meet with Mr. Rodrigo Rato y Figaredo, director executive of the IMF.
Mr. Adrian Nastase will give interviews within the renowned talk-show of the PBS public TV station, “Charlie Rose Show”, and the CNN TV station, for the “Wolf Blitzer Reports”.
In the programme of the official visit in the US there are mentioned also the inauguration of the photo-documentary exposition “Romania seen from above”, the participation at the Children Choir “Alegretto” in the UN headquarters, as well as the opening of the Washington Office of the Romanian Radio Bradcasting.
