The Prime Minister Adrian Nastase will participate, on Monday, March the 29th, at the ceremony organized at the White House, in the presence of the president of the USA George W. Bush, for marking the moment of Romania’s accession to NATO, together with the counterparts from other states invited to accede at the Summit in Prague.

At the manifestations there will participate the heads of government from Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia, as well as the secretary general of NATO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

The festive moment that will mark the formal accession of the new members will take place on Monday afternoon and will be preceded by the reception by the president Bush of the heads of government from the seven states that accede to NATO.

The Washington ceremony will be followed on April the 2nd by the festivity of hoisting the flags at NATO premises in Bruxelles.

Once formally acceding to NATO, Romania and the other six states will participate at the NATO summit in Istanbul as full rights members of the North-Atlantic Alliance.

The Washington manifestations have a special significance and represent the realization of a major objective in the external policy of Romania that aimed at anchoring into the security system and of democratic values.

From the official delegation led by the Prime minister Adrian Nastase there are part the presidential counsellor Corina Cretu, representing the Romanian presidency, the minister of foreign affairs, Mircea Geoana and the minister of national defence, Ioan Mircea Pascu.
