Photography and multimedia Exhibition “Sihastria Putnei: Faces a a Monastric life”at the Embassy of Romania in Washington DC
On October 22 – 28, 2007, the Embassy of Romania in Washington DC presents the Photography and multimedia Exhibition “Sihastria Putnei: Faces a a Monastric life” by Romanian photographer Dragos Lumpan.
The exhibition is part or an American tour supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute and that also includes important cities in the US , scuh as Boston , Dartmouth - New Hampshire , New York and San Francisco . At the opening of the exhibition that took place on Monday, October 22nd, at the Romanian Embassy, representatives of the diplomatic community, academic milieu and think tanks, as well as Romanian community, students and media attended.
On this occasion the Chargee d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Romania Ms. Daniela Gitman and Father Claudiu Lutai, from “The Holly Cross” Romanian Orthodox Church underlined the importance of preserving the cultural and religious identity and promoting Romanian spiritual values.
Artist Dragos Lumpan thanked the audience for the warm and positive response to his exhibition and shared the secrets of photography as well as his experience at the Sihastria Putnei Monastery.
The exhibition includes a series of black and white photographs, printed on large canvas and representing aspects from the monastic life. The photos were taken in 2006 at the Sihastria Putnei Monastery in Northern Bucovina , where the artist spent three weeks around Easter time. The photography album “Faces of a Monastic life” was also screened with a background of religious music performed by the Stavropoleos Church Choir.
The exhibition was also presented this year during the events occasioned by “2007 Sibiu European Capital of Culture” as well as in Luxemburg.
