VISIT OF ROMANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ADRIAN CIOROIANU TO WASHINGTON DC

On June 12-14, 2007 , Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Adrian Cioroianu will pay an official visit to Washington DC . On this occasion, Minister Cioroianu will have meetings with US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Stephen Hadley and Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England, as well as other representatives of the US Administration, members of the US Congress, leaders of the Romanian – American community, representatives of the academic milieu and mass-media.

Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs will deliver the speech „Towards a Renewed Transatlantic Partnership for Global Security” on the occasion of his participation to the round table organized by the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), John Hopkins University.

The visit takes place in the context of Romania's new membership of the European Union, its continuous presence and cooperation with the US and allied states in operational theaters, preparations for the arrival of US soldiers in the military facilities on Romanian territory in accordance with the Access Agreement, the complex dialogue with the United States on regional and international themes, including cooperation within NATO, in view of the 2008 Summit that Romania will host in April next year.

The agenda of discussions will include aspects of interest on the bilateral agenda, as well aspects related to the regional and international agenda.

Talks will also include cooperation in the global campaign against international terrorism, an exchange of views on the 2008 NATO Summit to be hosted by Romania , cooperation on military aspects, perspectives of inclusion of Romania into the Visa Waiver Program , as well as cooperation on insuring regional and international stability.

The visit is part of the high level bilateral political dialogue, considering the special relations between the two countries, consolidating the Strategic Partnership. In this respect, the visit aims at identifying ways of extending and strengthening the Romanian – American cooperation at all levels.
