On January 19th 2007, The Embassy of Romania in Washington DC organized, together with the Embassy of Bulgaria an extraordinary concert to mark the accession of the two countries to the European Union. The event was hosted by the German Ambassador to Washington DC, whose country is President of the European Union for the first half of 2007. The event featured an impressive performance of Romanian well-known pianist Dan Grigore, as well as a recital presented by Bulgarian artists.
Representatives on the US Administration and Congress as well as ambassadors of the EU countries, other representatives of the diplomatic community in Washington DC, as well as leaders or the Romanian and Bulgarian community and press attended the event. In the opening, Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of Romania, Daniela Gitman delivered a speech, as well as the host of the event, Ambassador Klaus Scharioth and Bulgarian Ambassador Elena Poptodorova. In her speech Mrs. Gitman underlined the historic importance of Romania’s joining the EU as well as the significance of the new EU member status, from a Romanian as well as European perspective. |
