On February 20, 2007, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Romania Daniela Gitman visited the Romanian community in San Francisco and took part in the events dedicated to marking the accession of Romanian to the European Union, at the invitation of Honorary Consul General of Romania Mrs. Dana Beldiman. Mrs. Gitman delivered a speech at the celebration event to mark the EU accession of Romania as well as the appointment of Mr. George Roth as honorary consul, an event that took place at the Green Room Club in San Francisco. Over 250 guests attended the event, representatives of the consular corps in San Francisco, Romanian American community, business and academic community in the area. The speech underlined the importance of Romania’s joining the European Union and the role of our country in supporting the consolidation of the transatlantic relation, as well as perspectives on the strengthening of the bilateral relations between Romania and the United States. Also delivered speeches on the occasion Hon. Rolf Schutte, Consul General of Germany, on behalf on the EU Presidency; Hon. George Shultz, former US Secretary of State; Mr. Ken Fisher, President and CEO of Fisher Investments and Honorary Consul General of Romania, Dana Beldiman, the host of the event. Messages of congratulations were sent by Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mayor of San Francisco Gavin Newsom.
The Romanian diplomat also delivered a presentation on the impact of Romania’s accession to the EU on the US – Romania bilateral relations, with highlight on the economic cooperation, on February 20, in an event that took place at the Romanian General Honorary Consulate at San Francisco with the participation of think thank and academic milieu representatives, as well as Romanian - American business representatives and journalists.
