Romanian origin artist Sherban Lupu and three paysant virtosos Grigore Chira, Ioan Pop and Gheorghe Stan enchanted the American and Romania public gathered at the Corcoran Gallery of Art on October 24th, with traditional music from all regions of Romania in a very special concert organized by the Embassy of Romania in Washington DC.
The event was organized with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Foundation for Communication Strategies. In the opening of the concert, Mrs. Daniela Gitman, Charge d’Affaires of the Romanian Embassy, delivered the opening remarks, welcoming all music lovers and underlining the personality of maestro Sherban Lupu, a very well known Romanian musician one of the world's leading performers of George Enescu's music. In a very well received performance, using a picturesque array of traditional instruments such as the cimbalom, the stroh violin, the folk fiddle, and various folk wind and percussion instruments, the Romanian musicians played a broad of folk (mostly dance) music from various regions of Romania, in a subtle interplay between the classical and the folk style. |
