Visit of State Secretary, Coordinator of the Department for Romanians Living Abroad, Mihai Gheorghiu

On May 30th – June 9th, state secretary within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Mihai Gheorghiu visits Romanian communities in the United States , in Washington DC , Los Angeles , Chicago si New York .

The agenda of the visit includes consolidation of the dialogue and cooperation between Romanian authorities and the Romanian – American community organizations and Romanian – American media in order to strengthen the support for the efforts of preserving and promoting the ethnic, cultural and religious identity of Romanians living in the US, as well as for strengthening the links between the Romanian community and the country of origin. The Romanian official will present the strategy and priorities of the Department for Romanians Living Abroad in order to evaluate feasible ways for support towards the Romanian community. The visit also includes meetings with Romanian origin personalities in the academic milieu, in order to identify better ways of promoting Romanian culture within the United States .

In Washington , the Romanian state secretary also met Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the Department of State Mark Pekala . The agenda of discussion included aspects of interest for the Romanian – American community, as well as ways to support the community through bilateral cooperation and the role of the Romanian community in promoting the Romanian – American bilateral relation.
