Romanian students take third place in Computer Society International Design Competition  

Washington DC , between 29 th June and 2 nd July, was the host for the finals of the Computer Society International Design Competition (CSIDC) organized by IEEE. More than 300 teams from prestigious universities around the world competed in first stages of the competition. After a series of selections 10 teams have qualified for the finals, among them the team from Politehnica University of Bucharest. During two days of judging, the international jury consisting of prestigious specialists from industry and academia analyzed in detail the projects of the finalists, considering technical concepts and implementation, as well as commercial and social impact. The team from Politehnica University of Bucharest, formed by Maximilian Machedon, Iulian Moraru, Bogdan Marius Tudor and Dan Stefan Tudose and coordinated by Prof. Dr. ing. Nicolae Tapus took third place and bronze medal. The theme of this year's edition on the contest was “Protecting, Preserving and Enhancing the Environment”. The team of students from Computer Science and Engineering Department of Politehnica University of Bucharest developed the project Synairgy . They designed and implemented a device for informing and real time warning on the quality of air. The device is meant to help people sensible to various allergen factors and people that work in highly toxic environments. It can be tuned to each individual's needs for information and warning. Furthermore the device integrates in a global data acquisition system based on web services, which allows the visualization of the acquired data directly on the map of the zones of interest.

By taking third place, the University continues a five year tradition of winning a place on the podium.
