Ambassador Ducaru welcomes Elizabeth Kostova, author of “The Historian” at the Romanian Embassy

On May 18, 2006 , Romanian Ambassador Sorin Ducaru met with Elizabeth Kostova, author of “The Historian,” a novel about Dracula, which was New York Times #1 bestseller in its first week of publication and has remained on bestseller lists throughout the U.S. and in Europe . 

Ambassador Sorin Ducaru and Elizabeth Kostova had the opportunity to discuss about Transylvania and the legend of Dracula, particularly about the impact that history has on the present and the future.

Elizabeth Kostova traveled to Washington to receive the 2006 Book of the Year Award for Adult Fiction, recognition of the American Booksellers Association, scheduled for May 19th .

Elizabeth Kostova is currently engaged on an international book tour for “The Historian”, which was published in 44 different languages. The book was published in Romanian in March 2006, under the title “Colectionarul de Istorie”.

Sony has since purchased the movie rights. Douglas Wick, producer of the Hollywood Memoirs of a Geisha and Gladiator has signed on to produce the film and the script is being written by Finding Neverland scribe David Magee
