President of Romania Traian Basescu participated at the Summit of the Black Sea Forum for Dialogue and Partnership that took place on June 5 th , at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest.

In his speech President Basescu stated that in December 2005 he suggested the organization of the Forum in order to have a non-institutionalized framework for political dialogue between the neighboring countries regarding the identity, future, interests and objectives of the Black Sea region.

Romanian President also showed that responsibility for developments in the Black Sea region belongs to the countries in the region. President Basescu stated that the Black Sea region has now the chance to become an attractive partner for the main centers of economic power if it proves able to transform itself from a source of problem in a region generating solutions in the European and global context.

In the end of his speech, President Basescu announced that at the next year summit Romania will launch a proposal for the first Black Sea Charter.
