Prime Minister Calin Popescu - Tariceanu met on Friday, February 3 rd , Teo Peter's family in order to talk about the support that Romanian Government could offer

Prime Minister Tariceanu expressed again the availability of the Romanian Government to offer financial support to the Peter family for hiring a US law firm in case they decide to appeal the sentence. Teo Peter's family will also receive permanent assistance from experts within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice.

The Prime Minister underlined that he does not want to give advices to Peter's family about what they should do from now on, but he said that no matter what the family decides the Romanian Government will stand by their side.

Teo Peter Jr. thanked the Prime Minister for all the support. “It is a welcomed gesture. My dignity as a Romanian, not only as my father's son, was hurt”, he added.

Prime Minister Calin Popescu – Tariceanu stated again that he was more then surprised when learning about the sentence of the Court Martial in Virginia in the case against US marine sergeant.

Before the meeting, Prime Minister Tariceanu also had a phone conversation with US ambassador to Bucharest Nicholas Taubman on the Teo Peter case.

“Under these circumstances, we propose to the killed bassist's family, financial assistance from the Romanian state so that they can take legal action in a US civil law court, if they wish it”, Prime Minister has stated, on his arrival to Ankara .

Primul-ministru Calin Popescu- Tariceanu s- a întâlnit astazi cu membrii familiei lui Teo Peter, pentru a discuta despre sprijinul pe care Guvernul poate sa li -l acorde .


Primul-ministru a reiterat disponibilitatea Guvernului de a asista financiar familia Peter pentru angajarea unei case de avocati din SUA, în cazul în care se decide sa conteste sentinta. În plus, familia lui Teo Peter va beneficia de asistenta permanenta din partea expertilor de la Ministerul de Externe si Ministerul Justitiei.

Premierul a subliniat ca nu doreste sa dea rudelor lui Teo Peter sfaturi legate de modul în care sa procedeze în continuare, dar a aratat ca indiferent de ce vor decide, Guvernul va sta alaturi ei.

Teo Peter Jr. a multumit premierului pentru sprijinul acordat. "Este un gest binevenit. Demnitatea mea ca român, nu doar ca fiu al tatalui meu, a fost atinsa" , a aratat el.

Primul-ministru Calin Popescu-Tariceanu a reiterat faptul ca a fost mai mult decât surprins de sentinta data de Curtea Martiala din Virginia în cazul puscasului marin.

Înaintea acestei întâlniri, seful Executivului a avut o convorbire telefonica cu ambasadorul SUA la Bucuresti, Nicholas Taubman, legata de cazul Teo Peter.
