Prime Minister Calin Popescu - Tariceanu met on Friday, February 3 rd , Teo Peter's family in order to talk about the support that Romanian Government could offer
Prime Minister Tariceanu expressed again the availability of the Romanian Government to offer financial support to the Peter family for hiring a US law firm in case they decide to appeal the sentence. Teo Peter's family will also receive permanent assistance from experts within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice.
The Prime Minister underlined that he does not want to give advices to Peter's family about what they should do from now on, but he said that no matter what the family decides the Romanian Government will stand by their side.
Teo Peter Jr. thanked the Prime Minister for all the support. “It is a welcomed gesture. My dignity as a Romanian, not only as my father's son, was hurt”, he added.
Prime Minister Calin Popescu – Tariceanu stated again that he was more then surprised when learning about the sentence of the Court Martial in Virginia in the case against US marine sergeant.
Before the meeting, Prime Minister Tariceanu also had a phone conversation with US ambassador to Bucharest Nicholas Taubman on the Teo Peter case.
