The Embassy of Romania to Washington D.C. announces with deep sorrow that H.E. Mr. Aurel-Dragos Munteanu , former Ambassador of Romania to the United States between 1992 – 1994 and Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations between 1990 - 1992 has passed away, on May 30, 2005 , at the age of 63.
After getting degrees in Romania and completing his studies at the Iowa University ( International Writing Workshop) and Harvard University ( Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School), Aurel – Dragos Munteanu was the well-regarded author of numerous books and contributions to academic magazines. As Ambassador of Romania to the United Nations, Mr. Munteanu represented Romania in the Security Council between 1990 – 1991, while as ambassador to Washington D.C. he had an important contribution to promoting Romanian – American bilateral relations, in the new context after the fall of communism in Romania . Aurel-Dragos Munteanu also held other important positions during the transitional period following December 1898, such as Director of the Romanian Television.
The acknowledgement of his carrier and professional skills, as well of his extended diplomatic expertise in the field of US – Romanian relations, materialized in his important contribution to the creation of the Institute for Religion and Public Policies of Washington D.C., where the Romanian diplomat held the Executive Vice-President position.
The Embassy of Romania takes this opportunity to bring a last and pious homage to the Romanian diplomat and expresses its most sincere condolences to the grieving family.
