Ambassador Ducaru meets with Romanian Farmers visiting the US

On December 10th, Ambassador Sorin Ducaru met with a group of Romanian farmers to discuss about their study tour in the United States . From December 5-9, 2005, the Romanian farmers traveled to Raleigh and Tar Heel, North Carolina as well as Des Moines , Iowa as part of the Pork Farming and Processing Smithfield Study Tour, which was made possible by the  USAID and  Smithfield Romania .

The main objectives of the study tour were to observe the Smithfield farming process, from furrow to finish and to learn about Smithfield contract farming. These Romanian farmers along with over 200 others will work in partnership with Smithfield Foods, the company that plans to invest over $850 million in  Romania in the upcoming years.
