VISAS

Visas are documents that allow entry in Romania of persons using any other travel document except a valid Romanian passport or travel document.

Travel documents that are accepted for issuing a visa are the following: national passport, Reentry Permits or Refugee Travel Documents issued by the US Department of Justice. The documents presented for issuance of a visa must be valid for at least 6 month after the visa expiration date and must have at least one spare page except those used for annotations by the passport issuing authorities.

Visas to enter Romania can only be obtained from the Romanian embassy or from the nearest Romanian consulate in the United States. Please be advised that no visa will be issued at the border. Exceptionally, the authorities of the border police may issue transit or short stay visas, provided that the following circumstances are met:

Necessary documents to be presented when applying for a visa:

For the visa request, the applicant must appear in person at the Embassy of Romania in Washington, DC.

a) visa request form, duly completed and signed in original by each applicant (for minor children the visa request form will be signed by the parents or legal guardian, and the signatures will be notarized by a local notary public)

b) one color passport size photograph of the applicant, recently taken

c) applicant's passport or travel document

d) copy of applicant's Resident Alien Card or Permanent Resident Card, if applicable, or of any other document showing clearly the legal status in the United States

e) proof of travel or medical insurance to cover accident or hospital charges, valid for the entire period of stay in Romania

f) proof of sufficient funds for the entire period of stay in Romania, in the amount of at least 100 USD per day (bank statement in the applicant's name, travelers checks or credit card statement)

g) proof of reservation for tourist services with a Romanian tourist services provider, for all tourist trips

h) reference letters issued by the sending company and by the Romanian company certifying the purpose of travel, for all business trips

i) marriage certificate for persons married with Romanian citizens

The visa request form and all additional documents will be presented with the Romanian embassy or with the nearest Romanian consulate. Fees are to be paid by money order only, made payable to the Embassy of Romania. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted. The usual turnaround time is of 5 business days. The turnaround time may vary depending on the purpose of travel

Citizens of all these countries who wish to travel to Romania for longer periods than those cited above may apply for an extension of their permit to stay with the local Romanian immigration authorities.

Citizens of all other countries, not listed above, can enter Romania only with an entry visa issued by the Romanian embassy or by the nearest Romanian consulate, irrespective of the duration and purpose of their travel.
